Job summary

S&P Global Market Intelligence is seeking a senior Database Engineer to own and optimize our enterprise-scale database infrastructure across cloud and on-prem environments. The role focuses on tuning queries, implementing high-availability configurations, and collaborating with developers on efficient data models.

Ideal candidates have 10–12+ years in database administration, strong MySQL/Oracle/PostgreSQL skills, and experience with security, backup, and cloud migrations.

Job description

About the Role:

Grade Level (for internal use): 12 The Team: We are looking for a highly self-motivated hands-on Database Engineer who will focus on our database infrastructure estate and tune database queries within our Enterprise Solutions division. Our team manages and optimizes enterprise-scale database systems that support critical business operations across multiple cloud and on-premises environments. Operating in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, we value technical excellence, proactive problem-solving, and continuous learning as we transform and harmonize our infrastructure into a unified platform.

Responsibilities and Impact:
  • Administer and maintain SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases hosted on cloud platforms with 24/7 production support capabilities
  • Perform database installations, patching, upgrades, and configure high-availability deployments including multi-AZ configurations and read replicas
  • Tune SQL queries and stored procedures for optimal performance while implementing database partitioning, compression, and indexing strategies
  • Collaborate closely with developers to design optimized database schemas and support application teams in writing efficient queries and stored procedures
  • Conduct execution plan analysis and implement query optimizations using performance monitoring tools and insights platforms
  • Implement comprehensive security frameworks including encryption for data at rest and in transit, access controls, and compliance with organizational security standards
Compensation/Benefits Information:

(This section is only applicable to US candidates) S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $160,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits. What We're Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications:
  • 10-12+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with at least 2+ years in a lead or senior role
  • Strong expertise in MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL administration
  • Proven experience with database performance tuning and query optimization
  • Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, replication, and high availability solutions
  • Strong understanding of database security, auditing, and compliance best practices
  • Experience with cloud database migration strategies and performance tuning best practices across major cloud platforms
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration
  • Knowledge of automation and scripting (Shell, Python, Ansible, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical systems
