Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to lead power market modeling within our Market Management platform. You will design large-scale nodal power market models, develop optimization and forecasting methods, and partner with product and engineering to deliver production-ready solutions.

You will mentor data scientists, stay current with electricity markets, and translate complex concepts into commercial software for ISO/RTO contexts across the US and global

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field.
• Extensive experience developing or applying models for nodal wholesale electricity markets.
• Strong understanding of market-clearing algorithms, SCUC, SCED, and transmission constraints.
• Experience with MILP and large-scale optimization.
• Proficiency in Python with production-grade coding practices.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, API development/integration, and modern data engineering practices.
• Ability to bridge electrical engineering principles and software development.
• Ability to translate complex market concepts into software products.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of large-scale fundamental power market models.
• Define mathematical and analytical approaches behind new product capabilities.
• Develop optimization, forecasting, and simulation methodologies for nodal electricity markets.
• Collaborate with software engineers to ensure models are scalable and production-ready.
• Work with customers and product managers to translate market problems into commercial solutions.
• Guide technical direction across multiple product initiatives and influence long-term strategy.
• Mentor data scientists and raise the technical bar across the organization.
• Stay current with evolving electricity markets, optimization techniques, and forecasting methodologies.
