Description

Reporting to the Senior Vice President / General Manager, the Lead Data Modeler Engineer is responsible for the architecture, design, development, and deployment of data modeling and reporting capabilities utilizing Microsoft Azure Analysis Services, Azure Databricks, and Microsoft Power BI software platforms. The role is part of our Enterprise Data Platform team that manages the ingestion, storage, modeling, and consumption of data for Acosta and our clients. The Lead Modeling Engineer is also accountable for the optimization and automation of those BI solutions within Acosta's Enterprise Data Platform.

This position is a hybrid role open to anywhere. You will be expected to work on-site at least 3 days a week near an Acosta Group office. Ideal candidates may be located in Jacksonville, FL; Lewisville (Dallas), TX; Rogers, AR; or Charlotte, NC.

This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship (e.g., H1-B, H4).

Responsibilities
  1. Development of complex/advanced Azure Analysis Services (AAS) Tabular models with large volumes of data and advanced business logic, as well as enhancements to existing large/advanced AAS models.
  2. Creation of complex and efficient views in Azure Databricks to support AAS Tabular modeling requirements.
  3. Work closely with Project Managers / Scrum Masters, BI Architects, BI QA Analysts, and Data Engineering Developers in both Agile and Waterfall settings to deliver solutions on time that meet business and stakeholder requirements.
  4. Performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization of AAS and Power BI models.
  5. Mentor junior and senior data modelers in Power BI and AAS development, focusing on optimization and automation.
  6. Research and investigate new technologies for potential use in Microsoft and other BI tools, sharing solutions within the Data Platform team to drive efficiency and innovation.
  7. Focus on self-development in BI, modeling, and data skills.
  8. Automate and schedule data refreshes for AAS models.
  9. Provision and size AAS resources.
  10. Develop new complex Power BI reports and enhance existing ones as needed.
  11. Familiarize with Acosta's services and supporting data solutions.
  12. Critically analyze data model solutions for broader implications and actionable insights.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Microsoft Certification: Data Analyst Associate.
  • MCSA: BI Reporting.
  • Microsoft Certification: Azure Data Engineer Associate.
  • 10 years of related work experience.
  • 7 years in Microsoft SSAS, AAS, and data warehouse design for BI.
  • 5 years in data analytics and report development software.
  • 5 years in Power BI, including M Query and DAX.
  • Experience with ETL tools such as Azure Databricks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expertise in Power BI, including Vertipaq engine, performance optimization, and query analysis.
  • Strong understanding of RDBMS foundations and best practices for data and reporting optimization.
  • Advanced proficiency in AAS (or SSAS) tabular models, including data loading, relationships, security, and partitioning.
  • Solid understanding of Azure Databricks environment and functionalities.
  • Good problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
