Lead Data Engineer – Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Philadelphia, PA

Salary: $132,000–198,000 per year

Requirements

• Strong background in data engineering tools, especially Python, R, and SQL; proficiency with AWS services (S3, Redshift, FSx, Glue, Lambda).
• Extensive experience with relational databases, data modeling, database design.
• Familiarity with NoSQL, containerization (Docker, EKS/Kubernetes).
• Experience with R&D research processes, regulatory requirements, and healthcare data standards (CDISC, HL7, FHIR, SNOMED CT, OMOP, DICOM).
• Knowledge of big data technologies, MLOps, and strong problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and experience in an Agile development environment.

Responsibilities

• Support complex and leading data engineering projects across R&D, designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines for clinical trials, medical devices, pre‑clinical, omics, and real‑world data using AWS technology platforms.
• Create and optimize ETL/ELT processes for structured and unstructured data using Python, R, SQL, AWS services, and related tools.
• Build and maintain data repositories with AWS S3 and FSx, establish data warehousing solutions with Amazon Redshift, and develop standard data models.
• Implement data quality frameworks, validation processes, KPIs, and data versioning and lineage tracking to support compliance and audit requirements.
• Maintain documentation for data processes, architectures, and workflows; apply modern software development best practices.
• Collaborate with R&D researchers, data scientists, and stakeholders to align data requirements with solutions in a global model.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR; may develop and support data literacy training across R&D.

Qualifications
