Job summary

OpenAI in San Francisco seeks a Senior Data Center Mechanical and Electrical/Power Design Engineer to lead MEP design, operation, and maintenance for large-scale campuses. You will oversee design reviews, drive reliability, and coordinate with vendors through deployment.

You will combine hands‑on technical leadership with external vendor management, ensuring safety, standards compliance, and seamless integration of power, cooling, networking, and construction in critical facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required.
• Professional engineering certification required or EAC/US equivalent preferred.
• Extensive experience with MEP design, data center infrastructure, and critical facilities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee building and MEP design, operation, and maintenance across project phases.
• Lead operational activities for large-scale data center campuses from design through delivery.
• Operate and maintain critical data center facilities and equipment for reliability.
• Collaborate with external vendors on equipment selection and installation (generators, UPS, chillers, CDUs).
• Provide technical direction to teams and vendors, ensuring alignment with best practices.
