Job summary

MITRE is seeking a highly technical Lead Cyber Operations Engineer – Secure Communications & Cyber Innovation to support advanced secure communications and cyber operations. This role requires working on-site in a SCIF at MITRE’s McLean campus with Sponsor engagements across the DC area.

The candidate should have deep expertise in cybersecurity operations, secure systems engineering, and mission-focused engineering, plus TS/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
• Proven experience in security engineering, systems programming, networking, or infrastructure engineering.
• Strong programming proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, C++, or similar languages.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and assess secure communications systems supporting mission objectives.
• Lead threat modeling and security architecture analysis for mission-critical infrastructure.
• Apply information security principles to the design, development, auditing, and hardening of systems.
• Identify opportunities for automation and improved operational resiliency across cyber operations.
• Conduct analysis of network traffic, packet captures, logs, and operational data.
• Develop prototypes, tools, and workflows for secure communications and network analysis.
• Research emerging cyber technologies and assess mission applicability.
• Prepare technical documentation and briefings for sponsors and leadership.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.
