Description of Work Unit

Veterinary Teaching Hospital
At the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ), we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. This work unit exists to care for the basic needs of animals at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and to provide routine disinfection and service to all areas of the hospital, which serves as a teaching facility for veterinary students, as a medical facility for veterinary research, and as a public animal health clinic for exotic, large and small animals.

Position Summary

This position exists as a lead worker over weekend day and week day night employees within the Hospital Custodial department; trains new employees, creates training schedules, assigns duties, monitors work, creates weekly schedules and writes work orders. Performs cleaning quality assurance reviews in all designated areas. Serves as a back-up for every area within the department, cleaning and disinfecting all rooms and hallways within those areas whenever necessary. Performs cleaning quality assurance reviews in designated areas.

This position reports directly to the Custodial Services Supervisor.

This is an essential worker position and must be willing and able to report to work as directed to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay or interruption.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

A signing bonus may be available for eligible and successful candidates.

Required Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED .
  • Cleaning experience in a commercial environment.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience leading a team or acting as shift lead
  • Experience providing custodial services in a medical environment.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with custodial equipment including vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbing and/or polishing machines, buffing and/or other related cleaning operations.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and cleaning products.
  • Reliable with strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Lead worker for Hospital Custodial workers, schedules all weekend day shifts and week day night shifts for hourly staff and provides back-up replacements in employee’s absence. Reviews leave requests for hourly employees, signs approved forms, and directs paperwork to appropriate staff
  • Addresses questions from staff within, and outside, the department regarding cleaning, sanitizing, and hospital procedures through an exchange of information with professional staff and students
  • Addresses complaints or issues and rectifies problems as necessary, notifying supervisor of the action taken and referring major problems to supervisor or hospital director.
  • Trains new hourly employees in all custodial procedures and duties
  • Advises workers of temporary changes, procedures, and departmental work orders; trains and guides employees with annual waxing and floor care projects.
