PRIMARY PURPOSE
The primary job of the Head Custodian is to assist the custodial staff of a building in providing a clean, safe and sanitary environment for the students and staff. Perform a variety of tasks in custodial services for the building or campus that may include, but not be limited to training, maintaining custodial supply inventory and managing custodial staff.

Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience performing custodial work
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Perform the typical tasks and duties of the position successfully, the knowledge, skills and/or abilities listed below are required.
- Ability to effectively manage and delegate work assignments to the custodial staff
- Ability to maintain an inventory of required housekeeping supplies by communicating with the District's Custodial Inventory Management Specialist
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety in regards to MISD's policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate and train/instruct custodial staff on proper housekeeping procedures
- Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies and equipment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning, dusting, and/or vacuuming of floors, carpeting, walls, whiteboards, trash cans, windows, glass, furniture, equipment and restrooms.
- Manage and assist custodial staff in using proper techniques with cleaning inside/outside of District facilities which include: cleaning, dusting, and/or vacuuming of floors, carpeting, walls, whiteboards, trash cans, windows, glass, furniture, equipment and restrooms.
- Keep campus/facility and grounds, including entryways, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and play areas neat and clean.
- Report all emergency situations and problems, maintenance and safety concerns to appropriate personnel; initiate maintenance work orders and maintain work order status logs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVIERSIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Train, manage and audit work of custodial staff.
- Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry up to 45-50 pounds.
- Strenuous standing, stooping, walking, climbing ladders, bending, pushing and pulling.
- Exposure to biological hazards, communicable diseases; exposure to cleaning chemicals and dust.
- Exposure to slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
- Possible exposure to adverse weather conditions and hot to cold temperature changes.
- Use hands and arms continuously, frequently reaching overhead repeating the same hand, arm or finger motion.
