Job summary

Grand Rapids Public Schools seeks a Head Custodian for the 2nd shift in the South Quadrant. The role directs mechanical, grounds and custodial operations, travels to district buildings, and reports to the Operations Supervisor and Building Administrator for day-to-day instructions.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, the ability to obtain a pool certification if assigned to a pool, and proven leadership with service to scholars, parents, and staff. Wage is $20.86 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain Pool Certification within 1 year if the assigned building has a pool.
• Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with scholars, parents, the public and other District employees in a tactful and courteous manner.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise custodial and grounds tasks according to approved schedules.
• Operate and perform maintenance on building mechanical equipment and related systems.
• Create, implement, and maintain accurate work schedules for staff.
• Train and direct the Operations staff and inspect their performance.
• Travel to district buildings as required and maintain related records.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality of facilities in alignment with district policies.
