Qualifications

  • Experienced in grant development and administration – Design, writing, managing, and reporting on grant-funded programs, including full grant cycles.
  • Collaborative and relationship-oriented – Builds partnerships with artists, cultural organizations, funders, and stakeholders across Oakland and the Bay Area.
  • Strategic and adaptable – Thrives in evolving environments, helps rebuild and strengthen funding strategies, launches pilot programs.
  • Experienced in managing and leading teams – Supervises staff, mentors team members, fosters a high-performing environment.
  • Data-driven and analytical – Interprets and presents data to inform decisions and evaluate impact.
  • Poised and diplomatic – Public speaker who represents the Division at conferences and community events.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a liaison and representing the Division publicly – Build relationships with stakeholders and represent the Cultural Affairs Division at meetings and events.
  • Leading and managing key cultural programs and initiatives – Plan, implement, and improve programs supporting artists and organizations, including pilots.
  • Developing and managing funding and grants – Lead grant making and grant writing, research funding opportunities, design and evaluate programs.
  • Overseeing contracts and program budgets – Manage contracts, monitor budgets, ensure funds are used effectively and compliantly.
  • Analyzing and preparing data and reports – Track outcomes, analyze data, prepare reports and presentations for leadership and the public.
  • Supervising and supporting staff – Directly manage staff and interns, provide guidance and professional development.
  • Supporting division strategy and leadership – Work with the Cultural Affairs Manager to advance goals and support Commission administration.
