Qualifications

  • Licensure as social worker, professional counselor, therapist, or addiction counselor per state agency; supervisee/similar titles excluded.
  • CPR certification and de‑escalation training are required; first aid may be required based on state or facility.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct client assessments focused on history, current presentation, problem areas, ongoing clinical need, and risk assessment.
  • Lead assigned group, individual or family counseling, and implement evidence‑based modalities with documented outcomes.
  • Prepare and carry out initial treatment plans and progress reviews, documenting as required.
  • Provide crisis intervention and counseling to clients as needed.
  • Plan for and complete aftercare documentation for assigned clients.
  • Act as liaison with insurance carriers and referral sources.
  • Provide case‑management duties and educate/train staff on therapeutic interventions.
  • Conduct educational workshops within hospital and community settings.
  • Coordinate with self‑help groups and EAP professionals.
  • Evaluate client needs to determine level of care and referrals to other programs.

Lead Counselor – Mountain Laurel Recovery Center – Westfield, Pennsylvania

The Lead Counselor provides treatment, counseling, and support to assist clients in their recovery from addictions such as alcoholism, drug addiction, or mental health disorders. The role includes conducting client assessments, preparing treatment plans, serves as a liaison with referral sources, and supports staff training and clinical services within the facility.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Conduct client assessments focused on history, current presentation, problem areas, ongoing clinical need, and risk assessment.
  • Perform ongoing assessments of chemical dependence services required by the treatment program.
  • Prepare and carry out client initial treatment planning and treatment plan progress reviews, documenting as required.
  • Lead assigned group counseling, individual or family sessions, and implement evidence-supported treatment modalities while documenting outcomes.
  • Provide client and family education on substance abuse and psychiatric problems.
  • Ensure all documentation regarding client care, treatment, and incidents is completed timely and in a clear, concise manner.
  • Provide crisis intervention and counseling to clients as needed.
  • Plan for and complete required documentation of aftercare for assigned clients.
  • Act as liaison with insurance carriers upon request.
  • Act as liaison between referral sources and clients.
  • Provide case‑management duties for clients, ensuring individualized quality care.
  • Conduct educational workshops within the hospital and in the community as required.
  • Serve as liaison with self‑help groups and EAP professionals.
  • Evaluate client needs to determine appropriate level of care and determine if referrals to other programs or facilities are needed.
  • Assist in educating and training staff on therapeutic interventions.
  • Assist in training new clinical staff members.
  • Guide the activities of other clinical and direct client‑care staff, providing direction and clinical recommendations.
Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

Master’s degree in social services, addictions, mental health, or a closely related health services field with 2+ years of post‑Master’s professional experience in the addictions, therapy, or counseling field. Degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Licenses, Designations, and Certifications

Must have current and valid licensure or certification (excluding supervisee, temporary, in‑training, provisional, or similarly titled designation) as a social worker, professional counselor, therapist, or addiction counselor per state agency. Licensure status that allows supervision of other entry‑level clinicians is preferred. CPR certification and de‑escalation training are required; first aid may be required based on state or facility.

Work Location

This position is onsite and is not a remote position.

Supervisory Requirements

This position is an Individual Contributor. Prior experience in a supervisory capacity is not required.
