Job summary

The Guthrie Theater is seeking a Draper/Tailor in Minneapolis to develop patterns and construction methods for costumes and to lead a team to timely completion. You will collaborate with the design team and management to align with the designer’s wishes and available resources, while upholding Guthrie’s values.

The role supports the Costume Shop, working 40 hours per week with a guaranteed 44 weeks per fiscal year, and requires experience as a draper or tailor, patternmaking, and strong

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience and expertise as a draper or tailor.
• Patternmaking, layout, cutting, pressing, and costume construction skills.
• Knowledge of flat patterning and draping techniques to create patterns.
• Ability to lead a team and maintain an environment conducive to motivating a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop patterns by interpreting sketches and research for three-dimensional costumes.
• Collaborate with design team and management to understand designer’s wishes and resources.
• Lead and guide the assigned work team and manage a production schedule.
• Cut, construct, alter costumes and coordinate tech notes and fittings.
