Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a seasoned Control Systems Engineering Lead to direct a team on dynamic projects for our Manufacturing and Technology units.

You will estimate staffing needs, schedule work, and review investigations and designs to ensure high quality results. The role emphasizes mentorship, vendor coordination, and compliance with industry standards across concept through commissioning.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years total.
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation, control valves, and data sheets.
• Experience leading control systems design across concept to commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Direct control systems engineering activities on small to mid-size projects.
• Estimate staffing needs and schedule work for the discipline.
• Review and approve control systems investigations, studies, and designs.
• Provide input for procurement and bid evaluations for control systems.
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and safety regulations.
• Lead teams of designers, contractors, and junior staff with mentorship.

• Salary Range: Reston, VA: $123,400 - $178,500 annually | Clay, NY: $105,000 - $160,200 annually (salary ranges are based on market data for the applicable work location; final compensation is determined by the candidate's education, experience, qualifications, and work location).

Project Overview:

Bechtel's Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) is an exciting and growing business unit serving the semiconductor, electric vehicle, and datacenter markets, striving to exceed customer objectives through agility, innovative technologies, and world-class talent while solving the industry's toughest challenges for the future. Bechtel is supporting the construction of a semiconductor fabrication facility in Clay, New York, delivering a large, complex, fast-paced project footprint to safely enable advanced manufacturing capacity.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will direct a team of Control Systems personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans and review and approve control systems investigations and studies. Your leadership will drive high quality work plans, successful implementation of control system components, team support and training, and project performance.

Major Responsibilities:

• Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day Control Systems engineeringactivity on small to medium sized projects or a portion of a major project with minimal tomoderate complexity within a global business unit utilizing relevant EngineeringDepartment Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel StandardApplication Programs (BSAPs).
• Manage control systems engineering designs from initial concept and design through procurement, construction, and final commissioning..
• Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements.
• Reviews and makes recommendations for the Control Systems engineering aspects of bidevaluations and awards for approval.
• Reviews and approves key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents,supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, forthe project to which assigned.
• Ensure all designs and structures strictly adhere to local, state, and federal codes, zoning laws, and safe regulations.
• Assists in the preparation and reviews of project procedures and cost estimates forproposals, forecasts, and change orders.
• When directed, coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval ofControl Systems engineering aspects of the work.
• Direct control systems teams of designers, contractors, and junior staff, offering guidance and professional mentorship.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of instrumentation and control valves including specifications, generation of data sheets, application of tubing, and instrument installations.
• Knowledge of control system design including digital and analog control logic, control system network architecture, allocation of facility control system I/O, graphic displays, and acceptance tests.
• Demonstrated strong frontline leadership skills and emphasis on continuous improvement and team building and an ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
• Ability to facilitate technical discussions with third parties (e.g., clients, suppliers, regulators).
• Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in semiconductors is preferred.
• Licensed Professional Engineering (PE) in Control Systems. (state of NY is highly preferred)
