Job summary

Apptronik is seeking a world-class Principal Compute & Sensing Engineer to serve as the lead architect for the nervous system of the Apollo humanoid robot. This role covers end-to-end hardware architecture from NVIDIA Jetson-based carrier designs to the electrical integration of complex perception suites, ensuring safety, redundancy, and scalability.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
• 12+ years of experience in high-performance hardware design for robotics, aerospace, or autonomous systems.
• Proven track record designing custom carrier boards for NVIDIA Jetson or similar high-end compute modules.
• Experience with high-speed digital interfaces (PCIe, DDR4/5, GMSL, 10GbE).
• Hands-on experience with Functional Safety architecture (ISO 26262 or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design of Apollo's safe compute architecture and hardware redundancy.
• Lead PCB design for high-performance modules, PDN, thermal management, and signal integrity.
• Drive DFM/DFR for rugged, safe compute modules in a mobile humanoid robot.
• Define electrical architecture for multi-modal sensing (LiDAR, depth cameras, IMUs, tactile sensors).
• Architect high-bandwidth data pipelines and low-latency sensor interfaces (GigE, GMSL2, USB 3.0, MIPI).
• Advance safety through hardware-level redundancy and Built-In Tests (BIT) to meet SIL/ASIL objectives.
• Provide mentorship to electrical and embedded engineers and drive cross-functional reviews.
