Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, seeks a Composite Engineer and Team Lead to steer design, analysis, and fabrication of composite structures for the DUECE centrifuge program, coordinating across mechanical, materials, manufacturing and test teams in a DOE/NNSA environment.

The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science, 10+ years in aerospace composites (or 5+ with MS) and the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance. This is an on-site, Q-clearance role.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science or related field.
• 10+ years in aerospace composites or 5+ with MS.
• Experience with laminate design, ply-book development, and multi-physics evaluation.
• Hands-on autoclave layup and resin infusion techniques.
• Proficiency with CAD/FEA tools (CATIA/NX/SolidWorks/Abaqus/ANSYS/Nastran).
• US citizen able to obtain DOE Q clearance and security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead composite design, analysis, and development of structure deliverables.
• Develop laminate schedules and conduct structural evaluations under loads.
• Perform FEA tasks including linear analysis and buckling assessments.
• Drive composite process development and layup planning.
• Lead trade studies for materials selection and optimization.
• Coordinate manufacturing with internal teams and external suppliers.
• Support autoclave operations and layup troubleshooting.
• Contribute to NDI approaches, test planning, and data analysis.
• Prepare documentation for design reviews and maintain configuration control.
• Provide mentorship and leadership as the Team Lead.
