Job summary

JB&B in New York seeks an Electrical Associate for its Field Department. You will lead conceptual design, manage projects from concept to completion, and mentor teams while advancing firm-wide success.

As a trusted advisor and project leader, you will coordinate with Owners, Contractors, and internal design teams, maintain documentation, and drive schedules and quality across large-scale initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of electrical-focused commissioning or related experience, including leading small teams.
  • Professional certifications such as PE, LEED, CCP, or CEM.
  • Advanced understanding of MEP systems, electrical, energy, and building codes, and documentation through preconstruction to closeout.
  • Proficient in MEP design tools, field software (e.g., BlueRithm), and project financial tools (e.g., Deltek).
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities and technical writing skills.
  • Affiliation with major professional organizations (e.g., BCxA, AEE, ASHRAE, USGBC).

Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual design and guide teams through construction documentation and project completion.
  • Communicate with clients regarding deadlines, deliverables, and project issues.
  • Coordinate internally with project teams and externally with Owners, Contractors, and Field Department Leaders.
  • Manage collaboration with internal design departments and third-party engineering firms.
  • Oversee documentation control, including OPR narratives, observation reports, and test logs.
  • Manage multiple field service functions on large-scale projects (1M+ ft²).
  • Develop and manage project schedules and ensure timely delivery of all documentation.
  • Review technical documents for accuracy and clarity; ensure proper distribution.
  • Prepare meeting agendas and minutes, and track milestones.
  • Identify design issues and submit RFIs or recommendations to resolve them.
  • Prepare technical letters and memos addressing design challenges or code interpretations.
  • Complete large-scale projects from start to finish while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Provide final review and distribution of project summaries and reports.

About the Role

We are seeking a strategic, collaborative, and experienced Electrical Associate to join our Field Department in our New York office. This leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, excels at project management, and is passionate about mentoring teams and driving firm-wide success.

As an Electrical Associate in the Field Department, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor, project leader, and representative of the firm. You’ll manage a variety of projects from concept to completion and contribute to the strategic direction of the department and the firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead conceptual design and guide teams through construction documentation and project completion

  • Manage collaboration with internal design departments and third-party engineering firms
  • Oversee documentation control, including OPR narratives, observation reports, and test logs
  • Manage multiple field service functions on large-scale projects (1M+ ft²), including meetings, field activities, and client inquiries
  • Develop and manage project schedules and ensure timely delivery of all documentation
  • Review technical documents for accuracy and clarity; ensure proper distribution
  • Prepare meeting agendas and minutes, and track milestones
  • Identify design issues and submit RFIs or recommendations to resolve them
  • Prepare technical letters and memos addressing design challenges or code interpretationsComplete large-scale projects from start to finish while maintaining strong client relationships

Minimum Qualifications
