JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the GEAR UP Assistant Director, the Lead College Facilitator will coordinate and implement GEAR UP activities and services at assigned schools. They are the primary contact and team leader of GEAR UP direct services, at times supervising one to three college facilitators and several undergraduate interns. The incumbent will plan and lead efforts to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged and/or low-income students who attain eligibility and competitiveness for admission to colleges and universities and provide educational services designed to motivate middle and high school students to prepare academically for higher education. The incumbent will be responsible for providing outreach services at one or more partner middle and/or high schools in the designated area and/or surrounding service area. Tasks include planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs, activities, counseling, tutoring and advising focused on students’ successful graduation from high school and college, and career readiness. Works with students, program alumni, teachers, counselors, school districts, community stakeholders and parents.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $77,680/year - $85,540/year. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES
- 55% - Program Development, Coordination, & Implementation: Design and implement college access programming to K-12 students. Provides leadership for the design and implementation of college preparation services and culture to a district, including training K-14 school district faculty and staff. Plans and organizes a set of district-wide or regional college-going events and activities. Provides complex academic advising. Develops customized student academic plans to ensure post-secondary admission eligibility.
- 20% - Collaboration & Communication: Develops partnerships/networks with K-12, higher education institutions, and community organizations. Provides leadership in strategic and program planning efforts. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of K-12 and higher education policies and issues, assesses their impact on program strategies, and disseminates information to school site and district personnel. Organizes meetings with school site personnel and service providers regarding major whole school, district and regional efforts.
- 25% - Supervision, Leadership, & Budget: Manages program components, grant objectives, and activity budgets. Assists with fundraising and proposal writing. Assists in recruitment and hiring of professional, student, and/or temporary staff.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Comprehensive experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
- Advanced knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues, with ability to assess their impact on program strategies.
- Advanced knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population. Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
- Advanced knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid and scholarship requirements, and matriculation processes.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts. Ability to develop outreach programs and design effective materials.
- Advanced knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
- Knowledge of state and national education policies and current education theories.
- High-level skills in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
- Advanced knowledge of issues facing low-income, first generation youth.
- Ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage multiple critical projects with deadlines. Strong project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Leadership and supervisory skills.
- Bilingual written and verbal (English/Spanish).
- Experience designing, implementing and monitoring academic/enrichment programs or events.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.

- The selected candidate has the option to work a hybrid work schedule. If a hybrid work schedule is confirmed, the selected candidate must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
- Selected candidate will be required to provide proof of negative TB test.
- Selected candidate will be required to take a TB test within 60 days of hire.
- Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.

- Ability to maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working in a professional setting.
- Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
