Job summary

TOMZ manufactures precision components for medical devices, focusing on Swiss lathe and multi‑axis CNC production. You will own setup, offset adjustments, tooling changes, and steady‑state operation in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Role requires experience with precision inspection, GD&T, and documentation to ISO 13485. You will also mentor others and uphold safety and quality standards in a GMP‑compliant facility.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Class I/II/III medical devices in regulated environments.
  • Ability to set up Swiss lathes and multi‑spindle machines.
  • Interpretation of prints, procedures, and ISO 13485 requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Set up Swiss and multi‑axis CNC machines for production.
  • Perform offsets, tooling changes, and program adjustments for throughput and quality.
  • Inspect parts per ISO 13485 using micrometers, calipers, microscopes, and CMM/vision systems.
  • Document inspection data and maintain traceability in ERP/QMS.
  • Lead problem‑solving and mentor junior machinists; drive GMP/GDP practices.
  • Maintain equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure safe operation.

Job description

Are you the machinist who can set it up right the first time?If complex Swiss‑turn setups, multi‑spindle optimization, and chasing microns sound like your kind of challenge, let’s talk. At TOMZ, you’ll build precision components for medical devices, owning both setup and production while keeping documentation and traceability airtight.Questions to ConsiderCan you independently set up Citizen/Tsugami Swiss lathes and Index multi‑spindle machines, plus 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis equipment (RoboDrill, mill‑turn, HMC/VMC)?Do you routinely perform offsets, change tools, and stabilize new jobs with minimal support?Are you comfortable verifying parts with microscopes, micrometers, calipers, pin/thread gauges, comparators, Micro‑Hite, CMM, and vision systems?Do you document to ISO 13485 standards and maintain strict material identification and traceability?Can you lead problem‑solving on tough machine/process issues and mentor developing machinists?Will you help drive GDP/GMP best practices and continuous improvement while following all safety and PPE requirements?What the Role CoversSwiss and multi‑axis CNC setup, operation, and steady‑state production.Offsets/tooling changes for throughput and quality.Inspection and documentation aligned with internal standards and ISO 13485.Preventive maintenance and equipment care.Material control for conforming/nonconforming parts with full traceability.Use of ERP/QMS to capture inspection data and maintain records.Collaboration across R&D, Manufacturing, and QA; adherence to TOMZ QMS.Additional duties as assigned.Background That FitsExperience in Class I/II/III medical devices within a regulated environment using calibrated equipment and, when applicable, hazardous materials.Alternatively, regulated experience from aerospace, defense, or automotive.Familiarity with GMP/ISO requirements.Self‑directed contributor who partners well across functions and delivers with limited guidance.Advanced understanding of machine operation, care, and inspection methods.Hands‑on ability with hand tools for PM, repairs, and tool swaps.Ability to interpret prints, specifications, and procedures.Detail‑driven; organized; effective at spotting nonconformances.Intermediate command of GD&T.Education & TenureTechnical school certification (strongly preferred) or directly transferable manufacturing/engineering experience.3–7 years in regulated manufacturing.Preferred SkillStrong English communication skills, written and verbal.Physical RealitiesLift to 50 lbs (use team/mechanical assist above that).Repetitive upper‑limb work handling up to 20 lbs; gripping/twisting/placing parts; occasional overhead lifts.20/20 vision (corrected or uncorrected) for sorting raw and nonconforming material; fine motor dexterity for small/medium parts.Exposure to oils, grease, noise, solvents, dust, metal particles, sparks, coolant, and sharp edges; PPE such as safety glasses, dust masks, ear plugs, and cut‑ or chemical‑resistant gloves, plus engineering controls, may be necessary.Extended periods of standing or sitting.Shifts & Pay DifferentialsWeekend: 20% differential, 5:00 AM–5:00 PM, Fri–SunSecond: 15% differential, 5:00 PM–3:30 AMFirst: No differentialMust‑Have ProficiencyGD&TEquipment You’ll RunCNC Swiss Lathe (Citizen, Tsugami)CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC)CNC Lathe (5+ axis)
