Job Description Summary

The Lead CMM Programmer will develop, validate, standardize, and improve Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs and dimensional inspection methods in a production environment. This role supports manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams by translating drawing, model-based definition, GD&T, and product quality requirements into reliable inspection strategies while troubleshooting measurement issues and supporting shop execution.

Job Description

What you’ll do

  • Develop and validate robust CMM measurement strategies for standard to moderately complex parts using CAD models, drawings, datum structures, ASME Y14.5 GD&T, and production requirements.

  • Create, maintain, and prove out PC-DMIS CMM programs that align with Product Quality Plans, inspection standards, and shop execution needs.

  • Use Siemens NX or similar CAD tools to support CMM programming, model interrogation, inspection planning, and dimensional analysis.

  • Troubleshoot recurring CMM program, alignment, probe, fixture, report, setup, result, and production-support issues.

  • Support CMM hardware/software setup, probe qualification, fixture validation, and reliable execution of production inspection processes.

  • Improve PC-DMIS templates, reports, naming conventions, documentation, controlled software practices, and standard work.

  • Provide technical support, coaching, and clear communication to operators, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and cross-functional teams.

  • Lead improvement efforts that strengthen CMM repeatability, usability, cycle time, safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.

What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree or Machinist Apprentice graduate; or high school diploma/GED with equivalent manufacturing environment experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in digital inspection technology, metrology, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, CMM programming, or a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on offline CMM programming experience using PC-DMIS.

  • Experience programming, proving out, and validating CMM inspection routines in a production environment.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T, drawing interpretation, model-based definition, and dimensional inspection principles.

  • Ability and willingness to work on site in a manufacturing production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T, drawing/model interpretation, dimensional inspection, and measurement strategy development, preferably aligned with ASME Y14.5.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC-DMIS, offline CMM programming, program prove-out, and production support.

  • Experience with Siemens NX or similar CAD tools, model-based definition, and model-based inspection data.

  • Experience with CMM hardware setup, probe qualification, fixture validation, and measurement system troubleshooting.

  • Experience with complementary metrology tools such as Zeiss Inspect, structured light scanning, CT inspection, Volume Graphics, Control X, or Geomagic.

  • Experience with automation, robotic inspection integration, scripting, or workflow optimization using VBA, Python, C++, or similar tools.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including applied shop math, geometry, and trigonometry used in dimensional inspection and metrology applications.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while balancing production support, technical problem solving, documentation, training, and continuous improvement work.

  • Experience supporting dimensional inspection or metrology for heavy-duty gas turbine, aerospace, energy, or other complex precision components; willingness to provide occasional off-shift or urgent production support as business needs require.

Eligibility Requirements

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment
