Job summary

University Hospitals is seeking a Lead Clinical Pharmacist to support the pharmacy leadership team in daily operational and clinical activities. The role may include oversight of a service line, leadership of staff orientation and training, and participation in residency programs.

The position may function as Operations Lead or Clinical Lead, with duties spanning policy development, clinical guideline enforcement, and multidisciplinary education within the department. Ohio licensed RPh required.

Qualifications

  • Clinical leadership experience within a pharmacy department.
  • Education credentials as listed (PharmD or BS in Pharmacy).
  • Residency training preferred for advanced roles.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee designated area or service line within the pharmacy.
  • Lead orientation and training; ensure competency of staff.
  • Participate in or direct residency programs as applicable.
  • Lead or participate in local/system committees; role may be Operations or Clinical Lead.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations; oversee CS security.

Job Description - Lead Clinical Pharmacist (26000955)

A Brief Overview

The Lead Pharmacist assists the pharmacy leadership team in facilitating the daily operational or clinical activities of the pharmacy.

What You Will Do
  • Oversight of a designated area, service line, initiative or specialty within the pharmacy department.
  • May require Responsible Person/TDDD license responsibility for a designated pharmacy.
  • Guide the orientation and training of new and existing professional and technical staff for their specific job descriptions; monitor and/or assess ongoing competency.
  • May serve as a Residency Program Director or Coordinator.
  • Leadership of and/or participation in relevant local and/or system committees.
  • Lead position can be further designated as Operations, Clinical or Dual Role/Combination.
  • OPERATIONS LEAD assignment may also include:
    • Primary resource and point of escalation for operational issues.
    • Oversight and/or support of department operations, including but not limited to: workflow, technology, inventory, staffing and daily logistics.
    • Examples of duties include: Ensure compliance with all state and federal pharmacy regulations; ensure controlled substance security and accountability measures; assist in the development and enforcement of operational policy and procedure. (This is not an exhaustive list; specific duties will be determined at individual sites).
    • Concurrent practice as a Clinical Pharmacist.
  • CLINICAL LEAD assignment may also include:
    • Primary resource and point of escalation for clinical practice issues.
    • Oversight and/or support of clinical service line(s).
    • Examples of duties include: Develop and standardize clinical intervention processes; involvement in multidisciplinary teaching and education; assist in the development and enforcement of clinical practice guidelines/order sets, treatment plans, policy and procedure. (This is not an exhaustive list; specific duties will be determined at individual sites).
    • Concurrent practice as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Pharmacy (Required) or
  • Doctorate Degree Pharm D (Required)
  • Other Accredited Program: Completion of an ASHP accredited residency(ies) (Preferred)
Work Experience
  • 1+ years of pharmacy experience (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology and personal computers. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Ability to work on a team. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. (Required proficiency)
  • Leadership skills. (Required proficiency)
