Job summary

PIH Health Downey Hospital seeks an experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist supervisor to assist the laboratory manager in day-to-day operations and staff oversight.

You will lead process improvement, ensure regulatory compliance (CLIA, DHS, CAP, Joint Commission, CIHQ), supervise scheduling and performance reviews, and support quality assurance initiatives. Strong writing and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Active California Clinical Laboratory license is required.
• Five years as Clinical Laboratory Scientist (medical technologist) with broad knowledge across lab sections, plus one year in acute care hospital labs.

Responsibilities

• Assist laboratory manager/director in day-to-day operations and staff management.
• Support process improvement and revision of technical procedures.
• Oversee staff scheduling, interviews, and performance reviews; coach and train staff; assess competency.
• Ensure department compliance with policies and regulatory requirements; address employee relations issues.
• Contribute to Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement initiatives.

Assists the laboratory manager/director in the management of the assigned laboratory department(s) and its staff and day-to-day operations; this includes, but is not limited to, process improvement, Technical Procedure revision, staff scheduling, interview process, staff performance review, coaching, training, competency development and assessment; employee relation issues; department compliance; policy and regulatory compliance; and Quality Assurance/Improvement.
