INS Engineering is seeking a technical civil/structural lead focused on high-voltage substation foundations and structures. You will own foundation and steel design, calculations, IFC packages, and construction support, collaborating with substation, P&C, electrical, and project teams.
You will implement geotechnical data and loading criteria, review designs, and deliver compliant, PE-stamped packages while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with external partners.
Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, INS Engineering is a privately held power systems engineering firm with offices in Houston and Albany, New York. We help utilities, developers, grid operators and data center teams connect new generation, energy storage and large loads to the grid, from studies through commissioning, across all major U.S. power markets. Our work has supported projects like a 400 MW / 1 GWh battery storage facility in Texas and a 100 MW solar project in Ohio. We’re a growing, remote team that regularly gets together in person, guided by three values: Reliability, Innovation and Commitment. Our senior engineers mentor the next generation, and we stay with clients from kickoff to commissioning.
INS is looking for a technical civil/structural lead who specializes in high-voltage substation foundations and structures. You'll own structural steel and foundation design, calculations, specifications, issued-for-construction (IFC) packages and construction support, working closely with physical substation, P&C, electrical and project management colleagues.

Nice to have
First 30 days:
You've learned INS's calculation, drafting and QA/QC standards, met the physical substation, P&C and electrical teams you'll coordinate with, and reviewed the geotechnical reports and loading criteria behind active projects.
60 days:
You're running your own foundation and steel calculations for transformer foundations, oil containment and H-frame or equipment supports, and responding to RFIs and vendor submittals on live projects.
90 days:
You've validated the technical status of active transformer foundation, containment and steel structure deliverables, and you're issuing reviewed, PE-stamped IFC packages.
6 months:
You independently own calculations, IFC reviews and multidisciplinary field-issue responses.
12 months:
You've built a repeatable QA/QC and mentorship approach for substation civil/structural work.
This is a remote role based in the United States. You'll collaborate with INS engineering and client teams across locations, with occasional site verification and project travel.
We hire good people, give them the tools and support they need, and trust them to do great work, with no micromanagement. Your ideas are heard and your contributions are recognized. We work remotely and make time to reconnect in person at team gatherings, where families are welcome too. Annual bonus opportunities may be available, subject to plan terms. The final offer will depend on your experience, skills and location.
