Job summary

State of South Carolina's Division of Child Support Enforcement in the Midlands Region seeks an attorney to prepare and manage child support cases in Family Court. You will locate parents, handle interstate UIFSA matters, and negotiate settlements with opposing counsel.

Requires a Juris Doctor and active SC Bar membership; litigation experience preferred. Travel and after-hours work may be required, with lifting up to 20 lbs.

Qualifications

  • A Juris Doctor Degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Must be a member of the SC BAR.
  • Experience as a DSS Attorney preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license. The employee must be able to communicate effectively (written and orally) and write legibly. May be required to work after hours and/or some overnight travel and must be able to lift approximately 15-20 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares Child Support Cases for Family Court; performs court activities; follows up on cases, including parent locate and processing of interstate cases.
  • Represents out-of-state petitioners in reciprocal support suits and monitors outgoing UIFSA cases.
  • Negotiates settlements of complex Child Support cases with opposing counsel.
  • Prepares and monitors pleadings and case judgments for judicial hearings.
  • Responsible for trials and appearances at Court or other hearings.
  • Assists in coordinating county-level relations between CSSD and Family Court personnel.
