Job summary

Portsmouth Regional Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Certified Lead Sterile Processing Technician to oversee instrument sterilization, training, and safety. You will lead a team, maintain equipment, and ensure timely preparation of surgical sets for procedures in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires CRCST or CSPDT certification and at least one year of Central Sterile Processing experience, with leadership experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate / GED required.
• CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) certification required.
• One or more years of Central Sterile Processing Technician experience required.
• Lead Sterile Processing Tech experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and trays to ensure readiness for patient care.
• Operate and maintain sterilization equipment with detailed records of cycles and safety checks.
• Prepare surgical sets and case carts by reviewing schedules and gathering instruments and supplies.
• Manage inventory and organize supplies for the OR, coordinating with the surgical team to keep surgeries on time.
• Lead and train the Sterile Processing team, sharing updates on equipment and processes and promoting a safe, high-quality environment.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Certified Lead Sterile Processing Technician, you will be an invaluable safety expert and trusted leader on our team. You will use your precision and skills to keep every surgical instrument and supply clean, reliable, and ready when it matters most. You will also share your knowledge and guide your colleagues, helping create a safe, efficient environment where your team can thrive and where patients’ lives are improved every day.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Cleaning, inspecting, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments and trays to ensure every tool works properly and is ready for patient care
• Operating and maintaining sterilization equipment, while keeping detailed records of sterilization cycles, safety checks, and quality standards
• Preparing surgical sets and case carts by reviewing daily schedules and gathering the right instruments and supplies for each procedure
• Managing inventory, organizing supplies in OR storage areas, and working closely with the surgical team to help keep surgeries run smoothly and on time
• Leading and training the Sterile Processing team, sharing updates on new equipment and processes, and setting a positive example to support a safe, high-quality environment where teamwork thrives

What qualifications you will need:

• High School Graduate / GED required
• (CRCST) Certified Registered Central Service Technician, or (CSPDT) Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician certification required
• One or more years of Central Sterile Processing Technician experience required
• Lead Sterile Processing Tech experience preferred
