Job summary

Velo3D, Inc. is seeking a Lead Capital Equipment Technician to be the senior technical resource for the RPS technician team, ensuring reliability and uptime of our metal AM equipment.

You will mentor technicians, coordinate maintenance priorities, and support production to maximize printer availability. Qualifications

• 5+ years maintaining complex manufacturing or capital equipment in a production environment.
• Ability to mentor and train technicians.
• Strong reading of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Experience troubleshooting sensors, motors, and PLC-controlled systems.
• Preventive maintenance principles and equipment reliability.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day technical leadership for the RPS technician team.
• Mentor and train new and junior technicians on equipment operation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and safe work practices.
• Prioritize daily activities and allocate resources based on production needs and equipment status.
• Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of Velo3D additive manufacturing systems across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, cooling, motion control, and process systems.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and availability.
• Diagnose complex equipment failures and determine corrective actions.
• Assist technicians and provide technical guidance during repairs.
• Support production to minimize downtime and maintain printer availability.
• Create, update, and maintain work orders, maintenance records, equipment logs, and service documentation.
• Ensure maintenance documentation is complete and supports future troubleshooting.
• Verify spare parts, consumables, and maintenance materials are available.
• Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with LOTO, PPE, and safety procedures.
• Identify recurring issues and communicate recommendations to Engineering and management.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.

Position Overview:

The Lead Capital Equipment Technician serves as the senior technical resource for the RPS technician team, ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of Velo3D's metal additive manufacturing equipment. This position provides day-to-day technical leadership by mentoring technicians, training new employees, coordinating maintenance priorities, and supporting production to maximize printer uptime and on-time delivery.

The Lead Technician performs advanced troubleshooting and repairs across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software-controlled systems while helping allocate team resources and ensuring maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards. This position works cross-functionally to maintain equipment readiness and minimize production downtime.

Qualifications

• Highschool diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or vocational training preferred.
• 5+ years of experiencemaintainingcomplex manufacturing or capital equipment in a production environment.
• Demonstratedexperiencetroubleshooting industrial equipment with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, cooling, and motion control systems.
• Strongability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Experiencetroubleshooting sensors, motors, VFDs, relays, PLC-controlled systems, and industrial control hardware.
• Strongunderstanding of preventive maintenance principles and equipment reliability.
• Provenability to mentor and train technicians.
• Strongorganizational and communication skills.
• Abilityto prioritize multiple equipment issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Excellenttroubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base hourly rate for this full-time position is between $40.00 and $53.00. This hourly rate range reflects the minimum and maximum target for this position in the U.S. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as work experience, job-related skills, related education, work location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. In addition to a competitive base salary and a comprehensive benefits package, this position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and equity program, as applicable.
