Purpose:

The Lead Camp Counselor Substitute, under the guidance of the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director, provides program leadership and supervision of children aged 4-16, offers guidance to other Counselors, executes policies and procedures, ensures health and safety, reports concerns, implements daily schedules, and creates activities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Camp Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with overseeing camp enrollment of 24-96 children per session, ages 4-16.
  2. Lead by example and serve as a positive role model for campers and peers.
  3. Assist with pre-camp planning, developing recreational and educational activities, and attend staff training and meetings.
  4. Participate in all camp activities with a positive attitude.
  5. Communicate with parents/guardians, staff, and community partners before and during the camp.
  6. Ensure proper care and storage of camp equipment and facilities.
  7. Monitor health and safety, adhering to state licensing requirements.
  8. Maintain accurate program records, including incident reports and attendance.
  9. Use group management skills to engage children in activities.
  10. Help resolve conflicts and intervene in behavioral issues.
  11. Follow all policies outlined in the employee handbook.
Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years old with a high school diploma; college experience preferred.
  • Experience working with children or prior camp experience.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ADP.
  • Preferred experience in recreational activities, arts, sports, aquatics, or music.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications, physical exam, TB test, background checks, and licensing requirements.
  • Ability to relate well to parents and children, work as a team, and communicate effectively.
