Job summary

CIRES, located at the University of Colorado Boulder in Boulder, CO, seeks a Research Scientist to join the LOGOS Division at NOAA GML. The role focuses on maintaining primary reference scales and leading research to improve scale dissemination, with involvement in advancing atmospheric monitoring instrumentation and data analysis related to halocarbons.

The successful candidate will work with CIRES staff to ensure accurate reference scales and contribute to calibration processes,

Qualifications

• PhD in a physical science or engineering discipline.
• 7+ years of related experience in reference material production, analytical chemistry, or calibration services.
• Experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting complex instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain primary reference scales for long-term atmospheric trace gas monitoring.
• Lead research into materials in primary gas standard production and stability issues in gas cylinders.
• Interpretative data analysis of long-term LOGOS data focusing on halocarbons.
• Assist with production and measurement of primary reference gas standards.
• Assist with improved data management and uncertainty propagation of reference materials.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation to ensure high precision in analyses.
• Collaborate with GML and external scientists to expand calibration capabilities.
