Job summary

Harlow is seeking a part-time School Bus Driver to transport students safely to and from school and activities. You will operate a school bus, follow district safety procedures, and ensure passenger safety while complying with state education regulations.

Responsibilities include aiding students, maintaining vehicle readiness, and recording trips and attendance data. A CDL is required or must be obtainable, with endorsements P and S, and medical clearance.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Class A or B CDL or be able to obtain one.
  • Endorsements: Passenger (P) and School Bus (S).
  • Ability to pass medical examination.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and safely drive a school bus under various weather and road conditions.
  • Communicate bus rules and safety requirements to passengers.
  • Report safety issues and perform daily inspections.
  • Assist students boarding and alighting, including with wheelchairs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards on the bus.
  • Complete routes logs and required DOT/OSHA compliance.

Job Summary

School Bus drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events. School bus drivers pick up students at a designated location, such as street corners or private homes and drop them off at school. Duties and ResponsibilitiesTransport students in a timely manner to and from school and/or school activities while following district safety procedures and applicable State Board of Education rules and regulations.

  1. 1.Operate and safely drive a school bus in either good or adverse weather, road and traffic conditions while transporting passengers to school or special events. Comply with traffic regulations while operating vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  2. 2.Communicate bus rules, safety and behavior requirements to passengers; and address improper behavior immediately while using appropriate interpersonal communication skills.
  3. 3.Communicate with student’s parents to solve inappropriate or unsafe behavior utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills.
  4. 4.Assist students and passengers boarding and unloading the bus when necessary, including wheelchair students and adaptive equipment.
  5. 5.Inspect buses daily to identify and report deficiencies. Perform vehicle maintenance procedures such as fluid and fuel levels, tire pressure checks, clean internal and external areas, install tire chains, and any other normal daily maintenance as required.
  6. 6.Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  7. 7.Responsible to know rules, regulations (Federal, State and District) and laws concerning operation of a school bus; and comply with all traffic regulations.
  8. 8.Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  9. 9.Complete all records and reports timely and accurately such as pre-trip, post trip, route logs, mileage, student counts, seating charts, student reports, time sheets, and stop arm violations and submit to Transportation Department.
  10. 10.Operate at a proficient level provided GPS navigational technology, student attendance technology daily. Maintain proficiency with provided technology as needed.
  11. 11.Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route/trip logs.
  12. 12.Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
  13. 13.Operation of a two-way radio.
  14. 14.Maintain cleanliness to ensure safe operating conditions Responsible to work with School Bus Inc. Safety Manager on the implementation and compliance of all DOT and OSHA rules and regulations.
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Class A or B CDL, OR the ability to obtain.
  • Endorsements: Passenger (P) and School Bus (S).
  • Ability to pass medical examination.

  • Quality: Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Adaptability: Able to quickly adapt and respond to a rapidly changing work environment and manage competing demands in a productive manner.
  • Dependability: Demonstrated ability to consistently be at work and on time as scheduled, follow instructions, respond to management direction, and solicit feedback to improve performance.
