Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking an Operating Engineer to operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for assigned properties in the Chicago area. The role focuses on keeping a safe, clean environment and conducting routine preventive maintenance and repairs as needed.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of relevant experience, a high school diploma or GED, and appropriate trade licenses where required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related work experience in operating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a commercial property setting.
  • High School Diploma or GED; apprentice or trade school preferred.
  • Appropriate trade license/permit may be required (e.g., Journeyman/Master Electrician, Refrigeration Certificate of Fitness).
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Experience with energy management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform plumbing, electrical, or HVAC requirements of the building.
  • Maintain heating equipment, chillers, pumps, and air distribution systems.
  • Monitor energy management and optimize system performance.
  • Repair doors, ceilings, floors and other general property maintenance.
  • Respond to emergencies and report activities to supervisor.
  • Comply with codes, regulations, and safety standards.
