Job summary

San Bernardino County’s Land Use Services Department seeks a Supervising Building and Safety Engineer to lead a team of professionals in plan review, code interpretation, and permit processing. The ideal candidate will guide staff, ensure timely inspections, and uphold public safety standards.

The role requires CA licensing, Civil/Structural expertise, and 3+ years in public-sector plan review, with ICC certification preferred. Excellent benefits and a commitment to community safety are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required or equivalent as evaluated for U.S. accreditation.
• Three years of progressively responsible experience performing complex building plan review in a public-sector jurisdiction.
• Qualifying degrees or coursework outside the U.S. must be evaluated for equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Review plan check reports for deficiencies in plans and calculations.
• Assist in resolving conflicts with builders on code interpretations and substandard structures.
• Advise public by phone, email, or in person regarding the permit process.
• Review workload allocation and permit tracking; prepare and sign performance evaluations.
• Participate in hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.
