Job summary

Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville, TN is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker to perform carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, masonry and general mechanical repairs. This on-site role involves leading tasks and ensuring facilities operate efficiently.

The position requires a high school diploma, 3 years of skilled labor experience (2 in building maintenance), and a valid driver’s license. Reports to Facilities Supervisor; 4+ month assignment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three years of full-time skilled labor with at least two in building maintenance.
• Certification in building maintenance preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize daily tasks to meet operational requirements.
• Operate and utilize a variety of tools and equipment.
• Identify and report maintenance issues for repair.
• Inspect electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems and replace defective parts.
• Perform routine repairs on standard work equipment.
• Rewire electrical outlets and breakers; replace bulbs and switches.
• Repair windows, doors, flooring, woodwork, drywall, and other structures.
• Perform basic carpentry, shelving, drywall, roofing, and caulking tasks.
• Maintain grounds and perform minor HVAC repairs.
• Assist in construction projects and inventory maintenance.
• Communicate with vendors and customers for basic service and solutions.
