Job summary

NHS Scotland's Western Isles Hospital invites applications for the Lead Biomedical Scientist in Blood Sciences and Transfusion. The post is Band 7 with a salary of £52,845–£61,466 per year plus £1,461 Distant Islands Allowance, 36 hours weekly, and a permanent appointment.

The successful candidate will lead the Blood Sciences & Transfusion department, oversee routine analytical work in Biochemistry, Haematology, and transfusion services, and contribute to a modernisation programme and staff

Qualifications

• Qualified HCPC Biomedical Scientist with registration.
• Experience across Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
• Willingness to cross-train in Biochemistry/Haematology.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day organisation and analytical work of the Blood Sciences & Transfusion department.
• Develop staff and write departmental policies and SOPs.
• Participate in the modernisation programme and aid in service delivery.
• Oversee Point of Care testing as part of the laboratory services.
