Job summary

Kessler Foundation seeks a Senior Engineer to own measurement systems and data analysis software for human experiments. The role includes hardware design, integration, and documentation to ensure reproducibility across studies.

The engineer will develop and validate signal processing pipelines, build real-time GUI interfaces, and maintain data storage conventions while supporting IRB-approved studies. Mentorship and publications are expected.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least three years of engineering experience in a research, clinical, or medical-device setting.
  • Biosignal processing experience: filtering, artifact rejection, spectral analysis, feature extraction, and event detection.
  • Knowledge of electrophysiology and recording from humans including electrode selection and grounding.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Python for scientific computing.
  • Hands-on experience building/debugging electronic hardware: benchtop instrumentation, circuit prototyping, schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and build custom instrumentation for human experiments.
  • Integrate hardware into setups: biopotential amplifiers, DAQ systems, stimulators, transducers, and sensors.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and document lab hardware for reproducibility.
  • Develop signal processing pipelines in MATLAB and Python for biosignals and electrophysiological data.
  • Process motion-capture data: calibration, marker reconstruction, and kinematic modeling.
  • Build reproducible, version-controlled analysis workflows.
  • Create graphical interfaces for real-time acquisition and offline processing.
  • Establish data storage conventions and databases for tracking variables.
  • Participate in data collection for IRB-approved studies and oversee processing and QC.
  • Provide occasional technical support for implant-related procedures.
  • Author and co-author publications; contribute to grant applications.
  • Mentor junior engineers and researchers on code, hardware, and practice.
