Job summary

Seattle YMCA is seeking a full‑time onsite BASE program lead to guide elementary students through sports, arts, STEM and hands-on learning. You will support the program supervisor and foster teamwork, SEL, and skill-building in a safe environment.

The role runs during school start and end times, with additional Play Everyday support and full-day programming on non-school days. A strong commitment to equity informs daily work.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• 2+ years of experience with children in camps, childcare, tutoring or nannying.
• Ability to model YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Completion of minimum STARS training and CPR/First aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the Y curriculum.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure health and safety and a positive experience.
• May guide staff/volunteers overseeing groups of children.
• Communicates day-to-day information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies, including medical, disciplinary, abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Maintains site appearance and cleanliness; assists with snacks as needed.
• Checks in or out for parents and supports Play Everyday programs onsite.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; performs other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands‑on learning activities at a Y Before and After‑School Enrichment (BASE) program which is designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside of the classroom. You will support the program supervisor and help teach teamwork and social emotional learning to kids as they grow and learn all while encouraging skill building, creative exploration, physical activity, and most of all, fun. Lead instructors will also be supporting our Play Everyday Program 2 - 4 days per week during the middle of the day which is a recess based program at their school.

BASE leads will start 8/17.

Hiring for the following Locations

Blackwell Elementary, Dickinson Elementary, McAuliffe Elementary, Alcott Elementary, Mead Elementary, Smith Elementary

*This is a Full-Time Onsite Position.

Monday – Friday 6:45am – start of school

Monday – Friday end of school – 6:00pm

The Y also provides full day programing on non school days and early release days. Lead instructors will also provide 2 days of Play Everyday Support from 10:30am – 1:30pm. Schedules vary by school and will be set up by the onsite supervisor.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

• Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
• May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
• Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
• May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
• Assists at Check in or out for parents.
• Assumes responsibility for program operation when DCYF designated and qualified staff is not on premises.
• Provides onsite support for the school based Play Everyday Program at the school.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Qualifications

What we're looking for in an applicant

• 18 years of age or older.

• Experience planning and implementing group activities
• Have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college-level coursework and have a GED or high school diploma.
• Completion of minimum STARS required training**
• Certification in CPR/First aid*

Preferred Education/Experience

• 21 years of age or older
• Leadership or supervisory experience (1-2 years)
• Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
• Ability to speak any language in addition to English.
