Job summary
The YMCA of Greater Seattle is hiring part-time on-site BASE instructors to guide elementary students through sports, arts, STEM, and learning activities before and after school. You will support the program supervisor, teach teamwork and social-emotional skills, and help run the Play Everyday Program at schools.
Roles include assisting at check-in/out, maintaining safe, engaging spaces, and collaborating with staff. Multiple locations and schedule details vary by school.
Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older and able to work with children.
- 2+ years of experience with children in camps, child care, tutoring, or nannying.
- Ability to model Y values and responsibilities with groups of kids.
- Experience planning and implementing group activities.
- Completion of minimum STARS training and CPR/First Aid certification.
- Food worker card and background check as part of onboarding.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities.
- Supervise groups of children for health, safety and positive experiences.
- Guide staff/volunteers overseeing activities.
- Communicate day-to-day with parents/guardians professionally.
- Follow YMCA policies, including safety and abuse prevention procedures.
- Maintain site appearance, decor and cleanliness.
- Assist with snack preparation and service; clean the snack area.
- Check in/out for parents and support school-based Play Everyday Program.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.

Hiring Range: $22.00-25.00/hr DOE

In this role, you will guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on learning activities at a Y Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program which is designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside of the classroom. You will support the program supervisor and help teach teamwork and social emotional learning to kids as they grow and learn all while encouraging skill building, creative exploration, physical activity, and most of all, fun. Lead instructors will also be supporting our Play Everyday Program 2 - 4 days per week during the middle of the day which is a recess based program at their school.

- This is a Part-Time Onsite Position.
Monday - Friday 6:45am - start of school
Monday - Friday end of school - 6:00pm
The Y also provides full day programing on non school days and early release days. Lead instructors will also provide 2 days of Play Everyday Support from 10:30am - 1:30pm. Schedules vary by school and will be set up by the onsite supervisor.

Licensed School Age Programs require Mumps, Measles and Rubella immunization in accordance with Department of Children, Youth and Family requirements.
- Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
- Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
- May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
- Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
- Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
- May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
- Assists at Check in or out for parents.
- Assumes responsibility for program operation when DCYF designated and qualified staff is not on premises.
- Provides onsite support for the school based Play Everyday Program at the school.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

What we're looking for in an applicant
- 18 years of age or older.
- 2 or more years’ experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, and nannying.

- Experience planning and implementing group activities
- Have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college-level coursework and have a GED or high school diploma.
- Completion of minimum STARS required training**
- Certification in CPR/First aid*
