Job summary

YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking a full-time BASE program lead to guide elementary students through sports, arts, STEM, and hands-on activities at onsite schools in the Seattle area.

You will support the program supervisor, promote teamwork and social-emotional learning, and help run the Play Everyday Program 2–4 days during midday. Base leads start 8/17 and work Monday–Friday with early mornings and late afternoons.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• 2+ years of experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, and nannying.
• Ability to model YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• 12 college credits of 100-level or above; GED or high school diploma.
• Completion of minimum STARS required training.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• TB tests and MMR vaccination required; Concentra options at no cost.
• Food worker card.
• MERIT background check clearance.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements culturally relevant activities within the provided curriculum.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure health and safety.
• May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing groups of children.
• Communicates with parents/guardians day-to-day and confidential information.
• Follows YMCA policies, including medical and disciplinary procedures.
• Maintains site appearance, décor and cleanliness.
• May prepare and serve snacks and clean the area.
• Assists with check-in/check-out for parents.
• Assumes program operation when staff is not on site.
• Provides onsite support for Play Everyday Program at the school.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on learning activities at a Y Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program which is designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside of the classroom. You will support the program supervisor and help teach teamwork and social emotional learning to kids as they grow and learn all while encouraging skill building, creative exploration, physical activity, and most of all, fun. Lead instructors will also be supporting our Play Everyday Program 2 - 4 days per week during the middle of the day which is a recess based program at their school.

BASE leads will start 8/17.

Hiring for the following Locations

Hazel Valley Elementary, North Hill Elementary, Des Moines Elementary, Midway Elementary

*This is a Full-Time Onsite Position.

Monday – Friday 6:45am – start of school
Monday – Friday end of school – 6:00pm

The Y also provides full day programing on non school days and early release days. Lead instructors will also provide 2 days of Play Everyday Support from 10:30am – 1:30pm. Schedules vary by school and will be set up by the onsite supervisor.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

• Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
• May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
• Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
• May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
• Assists at Check in or out for parents.
• Assumes responsibility for program operation when DCYF designated and qualified staff is not on premises.
• Provides onsite support for the school based Play Everyday Program at the school.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What we're looking for in an applicant

Preferred Education/Experience

• 21 years of age or older
• Leadership or supervisory experience (1-2 years)
• Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
• Ability to speak any language in addition to English.
