Job summary

Kansas City University in Joplin is seeking a friendly Lead Barista to join our on-campus coffee shop. In this role you’ll lead the beverage team, deliver excellent service to students, faculty, and staff, and help create a welcoming environment to start the day.

Scheduled hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Previous barista experience is preferred, but a positive attitude and reliability are valued as highly as technical skill and customer care.

Qualifications

• Previous barista experience strongly preferred.
• Excellent customer service.
• Professional, friendly, and outgoing personality.

Responsibilities

• Greeting customers in a friendly manner and taking food and drink orders.
• Preparing and serving beverages, ranging from simple to complex.
• Answering customers' questions about menu choices.
• Promoting and recommending menu options to customers.
• Taking payment and operating point-of-sale system.
• Maintaining inventory and equipment by cleaning, troubleshooting and scheduling repairs.
• Keeping the work environment sanitary and organized.
• Evaluating and modifying processes to improve efficiency and quality of service.
• Develops new and innovative ideas for making the area better.
• Ensures adequate food and supplies are on hand.
• Coordinates orders for the shop including food, beverage, and supplies, etc.
• Prepares and bakes pastry items.
• Strong time management skills.
• Complies with food/health safety regulations.
• Handles monthly inventory and turns it in to Hospitality Manager.
