Job summary

The Fairfax Companies in Tucson, AZ, is hiring a dependable Baler Operator to run a two-ram baler for our cardboard recycling line. You will lead a small crew, manage bale quality, and maintain the line with daily inspections and basic preventative tasks.

This full-time, daytime role offers steady weekday hours, $20/hr, and benefits. Must be able to work outdoors in Tucson heat and pass pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

• 1+ year operating a baler, compactor, or similar industrial equipment (horizontal baler preferred).
• Ability to read control panels, adjust settings, and diagnose basic mechanical/hydraulic issues.
• Strong commitment to safety and knowledge of LOTO procedures.
• Able to direct and work alongside a small crew.
• Reliable, punctual, and steady at a production pace.
• Able to stand for full shifts, lift up to 50 lbs, and work outdoors in Tucson heat.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operate the two-ram horizontal baler: startup, shutdown, cycle settings, and bale length/density.
• Monitor feed rate and material flow; coordinate with excavator operator and laborers to avoid jams.
• Remove contamination that affects bale quality or damages equipment.
• Manage wire tying, bale ejection, and staging of finished bales for loading and shipment.
• Perform daily pre-shift inspections: hydraulics, wire tier, shear blade, safety interlocks.
• Handle routine maintenance: greasing, cleaning, wire restocking, adjustments.
• Troubleshoot jams, misties, fault codes; report major issues promptly.
• Follow lockout/tagout procedures whenever entering or servicing the machine.
• Keep daily production logs: bale counts, weights, downtime, issues.
• Keep baler area clean, organized, and safe.
