Job summary

tastytrade, based in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Order Handling and Ledger Team. This hybrid role (3 days/week in office) leads backend systems behind order handling, ledger, and settlement, while mentoring engineers and guiding design reviews.

You will collaborate with product and cross-functional teams, drive implementation plans, and deliver performant, reliable services in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with leadership and mentoring experience
• Strong backend systems expertise including idempotency, transactions, concurrency, and reliable service-to-service communication
• Ability to quickly learn new languages and frameworks and apply best practices

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own backend systems for order handling, ledger, and settlement flows
• Partner with product to scope features and oversee execution with cross-functional teams
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers
• Deliver thorough code reviews focused on design, quality, correctness, stability, and performance
• Monitor technology landscape and experiment with new tools to improve solutions
