Job summary

Mapbox is seeking a Software Development Engineer II for the Maps API team. You will balance rapid development of new mapping tools with the reliability of services as traffic and use cases scale globally.

You may write robust application code, build microservices, and guide architecture to support billions of requests daily. In this role, you will lead teams, own tasks, and ensure on‑time delivery with quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building scalable high‑volume, low‑latency backend services.
• Proficiency in Python, Typescript, and distributed data processing tools.
• Experience profiling, tuning and optimizing data systems for performance.
• Ability to design systems and make architectural decisions for rapid growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead your engineering team to identify and scope well‑defined tasks.
• Deliver on time with quality and accountability.
• Design systems and drive architectural decisions for scalability.
• Mentor peers through 1:1s, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
