Job summary

Faculty is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to spearhead backend and edge/IoT work for high-stakes Defence projects. You will mentor engineers, raise the engineering bar, and collaborate with ML teams to deliver production-grade solutions in a fast-paced environment.

You should have strong Python and C++ skills, with a track record delivering for paying customers, and be ready to work on-site 2–4 days weekly with travel across the UK, or remote as needed within the UK.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in application development and modern system design patterns.
• Proficient in Python and at least one compiled language with a track record shipping to customers.
• Strong leadership and ability to mentor engineers; hands-on DevOps experience with CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a squad to deliver high-quality, scalable software.
• Design and build components across backend and edge/IoT.
• Implement CI/CD and containerisation with Docker/Kubernetes.
• Ship production-ready code in Python and other compiled languages.
• Collaborate to integrate AI/ML capabilities into architectures.
• Explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
