Job summary

Motional is seeking a hands-on Principal Engineer Team Lead to drive design, evaluation, and scaling of autonomous vehicle behavior understanding. Lead a high-performing team to transform data into measurable progress toward safer, smarter transportation.

Hybrid schedule with in-office time in Boston, Pittsburgh, or Las Vegas or fully remote. You will decompose ODD requirements, define actionable driving policies, and collaborate across Autonomy, Infrastructure, and Systems teams to meet launch

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in decomposing ODD requirements into vehicle capabilities and acceptance criteria.
• Proven ability to lead and scale data-driven evaluation programs for autonomous driving or safety-critical tech.
• Strong Python, SQL and data visualization skills; excellent communication with executives.

Responsibilities

• Design system behavior by breaking down ODD into behaviors and interfaces to meet product requirements.
• Develop actionable policies and measurable targets from policy narratives and benchmarks.
• Define metrics, rewards, and testing campaigns using simulation, tracks, and on-road data.
• Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team with a data-driven culture.
• Collaborate with Autonomy, Infrastructure, and Operations to improve designs and meet launch criteria.
• Lead data exploration to uncover actionable insights and drive cross-team resolution.
• Incorporate advanced metrics and learning methods to push evaluation boundaries.
