Job summary

Colorado Office of the Attorney General seeks a First Assistant Attorney General to establish and lead the new Employment Law Defense Unit. The role combines hands-on employment litigation with strategic oversight, client counseling, and team development within the Civil Litigation and Employment Law Section.

The successful candidate will build intake, assignment, and quality-control systems, coordinate with other units, and report to department leadership.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the Colorado bar and in good standing at time of application.
• Experience supervising/leading legal staff, including attorneys and paralegals.
• Demonstrated litigation experience able to oversee complex state/federal matters.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the Employment Law Defense Unit, including developing intake, case assignment, staffing, and quality control systems.
• Direct and handle a meaningful portfolio of employment litigation with strategic oversight and client communication.
• Serve clients across state agencies and public institutions, develop templates, playbooks, and training to improve practice excellence.
