Job summary

Eversheds Sutherland US LLP seeks an Assistant Controller in Washington, DC, to join the Accounting & Finance management team. You will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance, supervising 2+ staff and coordinating with tax and audit firms.

The role includes monthly/year-end closings, fixed assets, partner accounting, and audits. A bachelor’s in accounting is required; CPA and Master’s preferred. Salary $140,000–$160,000 with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of accounting experience and 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, conventions, and standards.
• Meticulous, organized and able to read, analyze, and process complex financial statements.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize workloads.
• Ability to manage and develop others.
• Discretion in working with confidential data.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office with Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coach, and develop staff; establish clear responsibilities and accountability.
• Oversee general ledger and balance sheet accounts; approve reconciliations, journal entries, and related activities.
• Coordinate with billing, accounts payable, cash receipting, payroll teams to ensure accurate data and reporting.
• Oversee monthly and year-end closing; review financial statements for accuracy and consistency.
• Manage fixed asset system and depreciation, including capital projects and disposals.
