Job summary

Baker Hughes is seeking an Applications Engineer to join our Oilfield Services team. You will design technical job programs for upstream projects, ensuring alignment with customer objectives and contract requirements.

You will work with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks and optimize performance across the full job lifecycle. The role requires hands-on experience in Upstream Oil & Gas chemicals, strong analytical and communication skills, and willingness to travel to customer sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in Upstream Oil & Gas Chemicals including production, stimulation, and fluids.
  • Strong understanding of chemical treatment programs, field applications, troubleshooting and customer-facing tech support.
  • Experience with technical job planning, treatment execution, performance optimization, and commercial/P&L considerations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder management and customer engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and data interpretation capabilities; translate field results into actions.
  • Ability to work in a global matrix organization with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience supporting field trials, product evaluations, and tech solutions for upstream operators.
  • Willing to travel to customer locations and field sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the Manage the Job Cycle (MtJC) process.
  • Collaborate with Service Delivery Coordinators and Sales to align objectives and terms.
  • Perform offset job analysis and engineering modeling to identify risks, hazards and performance expectations.
  • Design job programs including risk mitigation and contingency plans to meet objectives and maximize value.
  • Provide on-demand technical support during job execution, including on-call coverage.
  • Document calculations, simulations and revisions for visibility and audit purposes.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement between planned and executed jobs.
  • Support field incident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Travel to customer sites and field facilities as required.

As an Applications Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring flawless job execution by contributing across the full job lifecycle, including planning, execution, and post-job analysis. You will design technical job programs and applications that align with customer objectives while maximizing business outcomes in line with contract requirements.

As an Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring compliance with the Manage the Job Cycle (MtJC) process
  • Working with Service Delivery Coordinators and Sales teams to understand customer well construction or production objectives and commercial terms
  • Performing offset job analysis and engineering modeling to identify application risks, hazards, and performance expectations
  • Designing job programs including risk mitigation and contingency plans to meet customer objectives and maximize value
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure all technical and operational constraints are addressed
  • Providing on-demand technical support during job execution, including participation in on-call schedules
  • Documenting calculations, simulations, and plan revisions for visibility and audit purposes
  • Comparing planned vs. executed jobs, capturing lessons learned, and driving continuous improvement
  • Supporting field incident investigations, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions
  • Ensuring timely incident management and customer issue resolution
  • Advising on product improvement opportunities based on recurring issues or failures
  • Supporting sales teams with technical recommendations and application expertise
  • Participating in customer discussions on service delivery performance and KPI outcomes
  • Supporting product line initiatives including cost reduction and performance improvement projects
  • Handling special projects as required

To be successful in this role you will:
  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline
  • Be able to demonstrate hands‑on experience in Upstream Oil & Gas Chemicals, including production chemicals, stimulation chemicals, drilling/completion fluids, asset integrity, or related application.
  • Have strong understanding of chemical treatment programs, field applications, troubleshooting, and customer‑facing technical support
  • Have experience with technical job planning, treatment execution, performance optimization, and commercial/P&L considerations
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and customer engagement skills
  • Have strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data interpretation capabilities, with the ability to translate field results into actionable recommendations
  • Be able to work effectively in a global matrix organization, collaborating with sales, operations, technology, and customer teams
  • Have experience supporting field trials, product evaluations, and technical solutions development for upstream operators
  • Be willing to travel to customer locations, field sites, and operational facilities as required
