Job summary

ACC is seeking a dedicated supervisor to lead the Animal Care Team at our NYC facilities. You will oversee daily activities, coach staff, and ensure gold-standard care across all animals in our care, directing training and accountability per approved procedures.

Ideal candidates bring supervisory experience, passion for animal welfare, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced nonprofit shelter environment. This full-time role assists in staff scheduling and program expansion.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months of animal handling experience required.
• Willing to travel across boroughs and nationally for training.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Assign work that includes cleaning of primary animal housing, animal rooms, and supplies; laundry; dog walking and enrichment
• Inspect and evaluate quality of kennel cleanliness, room tidiness, and general carrying out of assigned duties by staff; follow up as needed
• Participate in Animal Care staff hiring, including Hiring Info Sessions, evaluations and disciplinary action in cooperation with Care Center Manager and Human Resources
• Establish, monitor and measure staff performance goals and provide performance evaluations to Animal Care team
