About Us

National Grid is hiring a Lead Analyst, Flexibility Market Development (ESMP) for our Commercial & Customer Strategy department in Waltham, MA. This is a hybrid role.

Every day we deliver safe and secure energy to homes, communities, and businesses. We are there when people need us the most. We connect people to the energy they need for the lives they live.

The pace of change in society and our industry is accelerating and our expertise and track record puts us in an unparalleled position to shape the sustainable future of our industry. To be successful we must anticipate the needs of our customers, reducing the cost of energy delivery today and pioneering the flexible energy systems of tomorrow. This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow, both ourselves and our business.

Job Purpose

As the clean energy transition accelerates and electrification increases demand on the electric grid, utilities are pursuing innovative strategies to unlock the value of distributed energy resources (DERs) and grid flexibility to enhance system reliability, strengthen grid resilience, and enable a more efficient energy system. Non-Wires Alternatives (NWAs), Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), and other flexibility solutions can provide reliability, resilience, and operational benefits to the electric grid.

National Grid’s Electric Sector Modernization Plan (ESMP) outlines a pathway to a more flexible, resilient, and customer-centric electric system capable of supporting electrification and decarbonization goals.

To advance this vision, National Grid is seeking to accelerate the deployment of grid flexibility solutions to support Massachusetts' clean energy and climate goals. Through its Non-Wires Alternative program and broader grid flexibility initiatives, National Grid is developing innovative approaches that leverage energy efficiency, demand response, energy storage, distributed generation, and other distributed energy resources (DERs) to deliver value to customers and the electric system.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and deliver National Grid’s strategy for grid flexibility and distributed energy resources (DERs) market development in Massachusetts, ensuring alignment with regulatory priorities and business needs, and the objectives of National Grid’s ESMP.

  • Lead the design, implementation, and scaling of grid flexibility offerings, procurement approaches, commercial frameworks, and got-to-market participation models that advance ESMP objectives and support clean energy development.

  • Serve as National Grid's lead representative and primary point of engagement with DER developers, aggregators, flexibility providers, and other market participants, fostering collaboration and supporting market growth.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders across Engineering, Procurement, Customer, Marketing, Legal, Corporate Affairs and IT teams to support go-to-market activities and the successful deployment of flexibility solutions.

  • Define future-state business requirements for flexibility markets and grid services and collaborate with Digital and IT teams to prioritize enabling technologies, data capabilities, and market platform enhancements needed to deliver ESMP capabilities at scale.

  • Monitor market and grid flexibility performance, track KPIs, and prepare materials for leadership, regulators, and external stakeholders, and contribute to regulatory filings and related reporting activities.

  • Represent National Grid externally through industry forums, stakeholder engagement, conferences, regulatory proceedings, and other market development activities.

Qualifications

    • Program or project management, including go-to-market execution and cross-functional coordination.

    • Digital product strategy, platform enablement, or technology implementation supporting energy markets or utility operations.
