Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Lead Specialist- AI Scientist to design, build, deploy, and scale production AI/ML capabilities for learner intelligence, knowledge graphs, and personalized learning experiences. You will bridge AI research with product delivery and lead end‑to‑end AI projects across teams.

The role focuses on Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and agentic AI, with responsibilities spanning development, deployment, and ongoing optimization to deliver measurable learner and business outcomes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying production AI/ML systems.
• Strong experience with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and knowledge graphs.
• Hands-on with foundation models and modern AI frameworks.
• Proficiency in Python and APIs, testing, CI/CD, and production ops.
• Experience designing scalable AI platforms in AWS or similar cloud environments.
• Experience with containerization and infrastructure‑as‑code for production deployments.
• Experience evaluating, monitoring, and optimizing AI systems for quality, latency, and cost.
• Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, LangGraph, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, vector databases.
• Strong collaboration with product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, AI/ML, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, deployment, and operation of production AI capabilities supporting learner intelligence, personalization, recommendations, knowledge graphs, and AI‑powered learning experiences.
• Design and deliver Generative AI, LLM, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), and agentic AI solutions with measurable product impact.
• Build reusable AI platform services, APIs, and workflows to accelerate AI adoption across Pearson products.
• Own the end‑to‑end AI delivery lifecycle—from experimentation to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Establish scalable MLOps and AIOps practices for training, deployment, observability, governance, and reliability.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Design, Learning Science, and Data Science teams to identify opportunities and deliver impactful AI capabilities.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and architectural approaches balancing quality, safety, scalability, latency, and cost.
• Establish best practices for responsible AI, model evaluation, prompt engineering, and governance.
• Mentor engineers and data scientists to elevate AI engineering capabilities.
• Communicate technical strategy and trade‑offs to stakeholders across the business.
