Job summary

84.51° is seeking a Lead AI/ML Engineer (G3) to drive hands-on development at the intersection of optimization and AI/ML. You will design hybrid systems, mentor engineers, and partner with researchers to deploy scalable production solutions within Kroger’s Labs.

You will guide end-to-end lifecycle, from rapid prototyping to scaling, with a focus on performance, scalability, and collaboration across data science, engineering, and business teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, ML, applied math, or related field.
• 4+ years building ML/AI/optimization systems with production deployment.
• Strong Python programming skills and modern ML libraries.
• Experience with Pyomo and at least two optimization solvers (Gurobi, CPLEX, OR-Tools, PuLP, CBC, SCIP).
• Experience with CI/CD and MLOps workflows (MLflow, Azure ML, Databricks).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Serve as hands-on developer building end-to-end ML, AI, and optimization-based solutions.
• Design and build hybrid AI/optimization systems with learned starts and surrogate models.
• Lead technical design, implementation, and review for POCs and production systems.
• Lead end-to-end solution lifecycle from prototyping to production hand-off.
• Mentor engineers and researchers across Labs and the business.
• Architect and implement robust ML/AI/Ops pipelines for experimentation and deployment.
