Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Irving, TX is seeking a Lead AI Automation Engineer to lead a scrum team building automation for annotation and AI-driven data production for robotics and Vision-Language-Action datasets.

You will design, deploy labeling/captioning solutions, train models, and build data pipelines while integrating Caterpillar data with external providers for scalable, reliable performance. This hands-on leadership role requires expertise in Python, ML, distributed systems, and tools like

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/SE/AI/ML/Robotics or related field.
• Experience leading software or AI engineering teams.
• Proficiency in Python and modern software engineering.
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs and data pipelines.
• Experience training or deploying ML models.
• 3+ years building camera/LiDAR datasets and data pipelines.
• 3+ years in data annotation and QA for autonomous systems.
• Experience with Labelbox, Supervisely, RoboFlow or similar.
• Proficiency with PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX or ML tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery for an AI automation team.
• Design and deploy automated labeling and captioning solutions.
• Train, fine-tune and evaluate AI models for auto-labeling/auto-captioning.
• Build data pipelines moving data through labeling, review, and publication.
• Extend platforms like NVIDIA Cosmos Curator and Cosmos Reason.
• Integrate Caterpillar data systems with external annotation providers.
• Ensure reliability, scalability and observability of annotation services.
• Mentor engineers and provide day-to-day technical leadership.
